Birders,
It was a moody, misty morning at the park today. Fog closed in and made
scoping the bay difficult if not futile. At least the tide was high, and
enough waterfowl were visible close to shore to keep things interesting.
Highlights included RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, COMMON MERGANSER, BUFFLEHEAD and
BALD EAGLE along with many of the usual suspects. A full species list
follows.
Please join us on Saturdays for the weekly bird walk here at Mason Neck
State Park. We meet at the Visitor Center for a 9am start, scope the bay
(in the wintertime) for a while and then hike the Bay View Trail. All are
welcome and no reservations are needed. Any questions may be addressed to

** Please note: THERE WILL BE NO BIRD WALKS IN FEBRUARY since the Visitor
Center will be closed. The walks will resume in March.**
