Birders,
The weekly bird walk is back at Mason Neck State Park. We enjoyed the clear
cool morning as we birded the one-mile Bay View Trail. Best bird was the
WINTER WREN; we also had 27 TUNDRA SWANS. BALD EAGLES eluded us during the
official walk, but later in the day they came out in numbers: 3 adults and 2
immatures were seen between 2 and 3 pm. Another notable addition to the
species list was 11 WOOD DUCKS seen around the same time: 7 drakes and 4
hens. Full species list follows.
The bird walk takes place every Saturday morning (rain or shine!) here at
the park. We meet at the Visitor Center, scope the bay while waterfowl is
still around, and then hike the Bay View Trail. All are welcome and no
reservations are needed. Please contact me with any questions at the phone
and email listed below.
