All the waterfowl missing from Occoquan are across the bay at Mason Neck.
Thousands of ducks were off the state park visitor’s center and around the
shore towards the north. Most were ruddy ducks and gadwall, but also present
were Canada goose, lesser scaup, ring-necked duck, bufflehead, American
widgeon, pintail, mallard, and hooded merganser. Also present were pied-billed
grebe and coot. At Great Marsh were many black ducks plus green-winged teal,
wood duck, and flyby tundra swan.
