Hi VA-Birders,
We spent several hours exploring Mathews County today and tallied 56 species.
Here are highlights from the different locations, with complete list below.
North Haven Beach - Good #s of Surf Scoters and Buffleheads in close to the
shore, great to get to see them up-close for a change.
South Haven Beach - Excellent looks at 2 Long-tailed Ducks, 2 Red-throated
Loons and several Northern Gannets
Intersection of Rts 717 & 645 - Large group of mixed species including a Winter
Wren, Hermit Thrush and Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Bethel Beach - Another Red-throated Loon, a few Common Loons, several Forsters
Terns and a raft of 40+ Ruddy Ducks
Along the way, we tallied 41 Eastern Bluebirds, which is always amazing. But of
course, Mathews County is THE place to go if you want to see large numbers of
Bluebirds in a relatively small area!
Great day of birding!
