Hola,
Wednesday afternoon, Ian Topolsky, my dad, and I spent an hour or so around
Buckland on the Fauquier/Prince William line searching for Mississippi Kites.
We found two adults, with one bird often in a swooping dive, but whether
that represents a courtship display seems unlikely per the Birds of North
America account.
These birds were best viewed from the parking lot of Ted's Tack Shack, at
the corner of US 29 and Vint Hill Road. The level of activity we watched from
this site made us wonder if they've relocated a bit from their previous
nesting site at Buckland Farm.
There has been a Gray-cheeked Thrush allowing close and prolonged study at
my office in Warrenton today.
Cheers,
Todd
