Today during a survey Sarah Davis and I recorded 11 Piping Plovers along the
False Cape and Back Bay beaches. There was a Black-bellied Plover, quite a few
Sanderlings, a few Dunlin and a variety of gulls. Two immature Bald Eagles
were scavenging scraps on the beach. A Gray Fox came out of the dunes and
returned. Northern Gannets heading north were streaming by quite close to the
beach. A few loons and Horned Grebes were seen offshore as well as cormorants
and Red-breasted Mergansers.
