VA-Birders,
Great turn-out of 30 birders this mostly cloudy, mild morning with a light
Southernly breeze. Marc Ribaudo and I led with the bulk of the 67 species being
found from the Parking area/pond, the Catamount Creek area where it passes
under Charlie Road, and the vine-covered trees on Taylor Point Road near Delta
Road. Highlights included: the 4 Bobolink that flew in and disappeared into the
field near the parking lot; the 1st year Red-headed Woodpecker that confused us
at first by associating with a few Red-bellied Woodpeckers, American Robins,
and a Scarlet Tanager; and, of course, the 7 warbler species. We also enjoyed
seeing a U.S. Navy blimp, at least 3 Monarch Butterflies, and a young American
Goldfinch (likely 2nd brood) still being fed by a parent. The e-bird complete
list follows. Thanks to all who contributed to this memorable day!
