A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was seen at Powhatan Lakes this morning. The species is
described in the Gold Book as "uncommon transient" in the Piedmont and the
South-Central Piedmont checklist (Dalmas et al) reports it as a rare spring
transient with only three records. Powhatan County is just outside the
South-Central Checklist area, to the northeast. I suspect this is a case of
being under-reported rather than genuinely rare, and it would be interesting to
know how many have been banded at the adjacent WMA.
