The next field trip for the Northern Virginia
Teen Bird Club, sponsored by the Audubon Society
of Northern Virginia and Flint Hill School will
be this Saturday, January 21
from 8 AM to 12 noon. We will meet at the Flint
Hill School West Campus on 3320 Jermantown Road
in Oakton, Fairfax County.
The planned destination is Airlie near Warrenton
where we will visit ponds normally not accessible
to the public. Here we hope to see the Eurasian
Wigeon that has been seen here for several years
in a row. We will also meet Sue Heath, who
teaches Field Ornithology at George Mason, and we
will meet Dr. Bill Sladen who will tell us about
the research being conducted there. If the
Eurasian Teal and Greater White-fronted
Goose are back at Huntley Meadows, we might go
try to find them on Saturday on the way back from
the Airlie trip. If we do, this would probably
change our return
time, or we would eat lunch after dropping people
off at Flint Hill School who cannot continue, and
then we
would go out again. Let Mr. Atwood know what
would work
best for you.
The trip is free of charge. Spare binoculars are
available for your use if you do not have any.
All teens in grades 8-12 are welcome, whether
beginner or experienced.
