VA Birders:
Thirty Northern Virginia Bird Club members led by Joanna Taylor, Larry Meade
and I enjoyed an unusually warm walk for November at Blandy Experimental Farm
in Clarke county this morning. The birding was rather slow though; it took us
some effort to see a total of 41 species of birds. Notable finds were a flock
of six Rusty Blackbirds in the central wetlands as viewed from the overlook
platform; an adult White-crowned Sparrow near the parking lot for the weather
station; and Golden-crowned Kinglets, Brown Creepers, and Yellow-bellied
Sapsuckers near the front feeders or at the south end of the conifer grove.
Surprisingly, sparrows were scarce and of limited variety. Other hoped for but
notable misses were Red-breasted Nuthatch and American Pipit.
The complete eBird list is below.
