Fourteen people took part in the NVBC walk at Sky Meadows this morning, led
by Steve Bruck and myself. Gorgeous morning. Nothing extraordinary, but
plenty of very nice birds - 54 species in all, with 2 more 'early birds'
before we got started. We used the Bridle Trail and Rolling Meadow Trail, so
there was an emphasis on grassland birds, with relatively few woodland
species.
Highlights: Broad-winged Hawk; the usual Red-headed WPs; Eastern Kingbird;
large #s of Tree Swallows; the usual Common Ravens; large #s of Brown
Thrashers; at least 10 Yellow Warblers, giving great views; a Palm Warbler;
large #s of Chipping Sparrows; Grasshopper Sparrows; a Swamp Sparrow; and
Orchard Orioles.
