I was at the New York Monuments at Manassas this morning at sunrise for the
3rd time this fall. I saw over 200 warblers-190+ of them Yellow Rump Warblers.
It took a lot of searching through them to find the others but I ended out
with 1 Cape May, 1 Black and White, 1 Common Yellowthroat, 2 Black throated
Green, 2 Bay Breasted and 1 Palm Warbler. Also 1Brown Creeper and 1 Winter
Wren. There was one time when my best estimate was 100+ Yellow Rumps in sight
at
once throughout the trees below the monuments. There were many Ruby Crowned
Kinglets, Robins, Common Grackles. Many woodpeckers with one Pileated. Also on
flybys were 2 Double-Crested Cormorants, 6 Cedar Waxwings, and a Red Headed
Woodpecker. At sparrow alley I saw 25+ Field Sparrows, 20+ White-throated
Sparrows, 8 Swamp Sparrows, 4 Song sparrows, and the highlight was 2 American
Tree Sparrows which I've seen there several times. No White Crowned Sparrows
or
Vesper Sparrows, which I've also seen there. Also seen were 1Catbird, 2
Roufous-sided Towhees,1 Kingfisher, 1 Green Heron, 3 Palm Warblers, many
Yellow
rump Warblers, Bluejays, Robins, and a single Purple Finch just below the dam,
where most of the sparrows were, as well. Dave White Zion
