While birding at 42nd Street in James River Park in Richmond today, with up
to five other birders at various times during the morning, we came across a
Nashville Warbler singing high in a tree at the end of the footbridge going
over the railroad tracks. The bird was seen by two members of the party. It
didn't respond well to calls or pishing, though. It's been many years
since I've seen one! Other warblers seen by me and/or others in the group
were:
Black and White
Parula
Prothonotary
Black-throated Blue
Northern Waterthrush
Canada
Yellow
Wilson's (in the same tree as the Nashville)
Common Yellowthroat
Magnolia
Yellow-throated (heard)
Redstart
Blackpoll
Ovenbird (great look by the picnic tables to the right of the bridge and
down the stairs)
Non-Warbler highlights were an adult Bald Eagle by the Reedy Creek
visitor's center, and a late Spotted Sandpiper moving about the rocks on
the river between markers MA9 and MA10, down the stairs and to the left of
the bridge.
