These questions were posed on another forum (non-bird) that I follow and I
was wondering if anyone had advice I could pass along.
Two quick questions:
First, what plantings tend to draw hummingbirds early in the season?
Second, how do you observe a nest box without causing the birds to abandon
the nest? Last year, my son opened one of the boxes, and we found the eggs
later in the summer unhatched. At this point, I'm fairly sure both pairs
have laid eggs, as neither box seems to be unattended at any point......but
I'd look if I were confident I wasn't causing harm.
The nesting birds are bluebirds and tree swallows.
