Hello all,
We made it over to the New York Monument area at Bull Run this morning and had
the place to ourselves.
The trees around the parking lot were alive with birds, mostly Warblers.
Our sightings there and in the open field included:
TURKEY and BLACK VULTURES
CHIMNEY SWIFTS
RED-BELLIED, DOWNY, NORTHERN FLICKERS
EASTERN WOOD-PEEWEE
BLUE-HEADED VIREO
RED-EYED VIREO
BLUE JAYS (many flying west)
CAROLINA CHICKADEES
TUFTED TITMOUSE
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH (very stubborn, heard only. We played the song upon
returning home and are sure this is what we were hearing)
EASTERN BLUEBIRD
BROWN THRASHERS (3 OR 4)
Except for the Black-and-White Warbler, we had multiple sightings of each
warbler species.
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER
MAGNOLIA WARBLER
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER
PINE WARBLER
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT
SCARLET TANAGER
FIELD SPARROW
LINCOLN'S SPARROW (at least two)
ROSE BREASTED GROSBEAK
INDIGO BUNTING
All in all, a great morning to be out birding.
