One, entitled All Fluff or Winter Survival Machines?
<http://ebird.org/content/va/news/EnergyMngmnt_Dolby.html> , is a timely
piece on winter survival strategies of birds by Andrew Dolby, Ph.D. of
Mary Washington University.
The other, 2007 Breeding Status of Piping Plover, Wilson's Plover &
American Oystercatcher in Virginia, includes a link to the full
manuscript in pdf format. This is a joint effort by Virginia Dept. of
Game and Inland Fishery and The Nature Conservancy.
These and other articles on this site are accompanied by some excellent
photos by top photographers, including Roger Mayhorn and Bob
Schamerhorn.
In addition to reading these articles, we encourage Virginia birders to
register as users and begin submitting checklists to this database.
It's actually fun and easy, and your submitted list can be easily
forwarded and shared on this list. Furthermore, your sightings
contribute to one of the largest avian data resource in existence, which
can help scientists better understand the distribution, richness and
diversity of our birds.
