Tonight was the best nighthawk show at Tysons this year. Within a minute of
when the lights came on there were 20 or more birds over the buildings. As
these birds got higher, more seemed to come in. At the peak there were at
least 40, probably 50, birds flying over a large area of sky both high and
low. It was really quite a show. I walked around to the back, where the view
was better and then back to the front again. I ended up staying the entire
hour until the lights went out at ten. I also stayed a while longer talking
to a friend and we noticed continual birds a block away over Fairfax
Square. I stopped there on the way home and there were at least 20 birds
there as well. I sure hope this continues all weekend.
