Several birders spent a couple of late afternoon hours looking for the Cattle
Egret at Veterans' Park today with no luck. We were treated to a Barred Owl,
which flew in right over the road and perched for quite a lengthy stay at close
range. Late afternoon sun and obscuring branches did not make for good quality
photographs, however. Tony Coomer and I also saw a Caspian Tern which sat in
some shallows long enough for a good positive ID. Both Yellow-legs were present
in decent numbers, close enough to each other to compare size, field marks, and
differences in calls.
