Finding myself unintentionally without even my spare binoculars, I took
only a brief trip to look for the hummingbirds. The pots of Lion's Mane in
the Haupt garden are still out; however, the plants have been so damaged by
the cold, I suspect they are producing little or no nectar at this point.
I did not see either hummer; however, lacking binocs, I couldn't scan the
likely perching trees--or focus on what appeared to be two bald eagles
flying high above the castle! I then checked the Ripley garden for 10 or
so minutes; while I still did not see either hummer, I am pleased to report
that there is now a heat lamp by the first feeder (in the Silver Bell
tree). This, I presume, is courtesy Jim Felley (who, as the caretaker of
the hummingbird feeders, I guess could be called their...Sugar Daddy). ; )
