VA Birders,
Today, as my wife and I rode along the ridge of Compton Mt, A NORTHERN HARRIER
caught my eye as it flew low over a pasture near the highway. The long tail,
long wings in a slight dihedral and white rump were field marks that told me
which species of raptor we were seeing. The bird flew toward us, then turned
and flew slowly, parallel to the road. We kept pace with it in the car (Very
little traffic on this road), as it searched the field for prey. It gave us
great looks as it ignored us for 30 seconds or so, then it turned and headed in
a southerly direction away from us.
Enjoy the birds,
Roger Mayhorn
