Saturday late afternoon I scouted the areas around Lucketts in Northern
Loudoun County. My target bird was a Short-eared Owl. Whilst driving
around at leisurely pace, I found 2 Short-eared Owls along Limestone
School Rd around 5 pm along with a couple Northern Harriers. Other
birds observed in the area were Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawk, a
male American Kestrel, and just west of greater downtown Lucketts (a gas
station, 2 antique stores and a community center that is) a Great-horned
Owl. I observed the Great horned Owl for a few minutes before it flew
north and disappeared.
