VA-Birders,
This morning I birded from before sunrise at Julie Metz Wetlands, Prince Wm
Co, followed by Possum Point (Dumfries), then Veteran's Park (near Featherstone
NWR), then on to the Belmont Bay marina overlook (PW & Ffx Cos), finishing with
a long walk around Occoquan Bay NWR in Woodbridge. The weather was quite
pleasant, with only a few sprinkles on two occasions. 14 ducks, 3 grebes, 3
warblers, 8 sparrows - 80 spp. total. Most of the below is of local note:
JULIE METZ WETLANDS -
NO rails (yet)
Blue-winged Teal (1 drake, 1 possible hen not seen well)
POSSUM POINT -
Yellow-throated Warbler - 1 singing
Rusty Blackbird - 1 rusty-hingeing
BELMONT BAY MARINA -
Red-necked Grebe - juvenile just off platform
Bonaparte's Gull
OCCOQUAN BAY NWR -
American Kestrel perched on a snag
Common Yellowthroat - bright male calling from intersec of Charlie and Deltaa
Rds
Many Winter Wrens - 18!! performing all types of vocalizations
American Pipit - One arising from field along Charlie Rd not far from bridge
7 Fox Sparrows singing near Bayview Trail and Easy Rd
Eastern Meadowlark heard giving raspberry call from parking lot
