Jackie Howard will be our guest speaker this Wednesday September 15. She will
talk about her latest book "Tale Feathers: A Celebration of Birds, Birders and
Bird Watching" to which Larry Cartwright, well known to Northern Virginia Bird
Club members, is a contributor. She will also talk about her recent birding
adventures in Italy and Romania (Danube Delta) and her efforts to establish a
bird therapy program for Wounded Warriors at Walter Reed Medical Center. Books
will be for sale at the meeting.
Jacquelyn M. Howard is an environmental management specialist, naturalist,
avian field biologist, and writer. She holds a BS in Agriculture from the
University of Vermont and a Master's in Environmental Management and
Quantitative Analysis from Duke University. She has worked as an avian field
biologist from Maine to Florida, with an emphasis on threatened and endangered
shorebirds. From 1993 to 1999, she worked with the United States Department of
Defense as a Natural Resources Projects Manager and had opportunities to
oversee bird conservation and research efforts on military facilities
throughout the United States, Panama, and Guam. Additionally, she has birded on
her own throughout the United States and in Europe, New Zealand, Canada, and
the Caribbean. Currently, she lives in Arlington, Virginia and works at the
Army National Guard Readiness Center.
LOCATION - Our meetings are on the third Wednesday of February, April,
September and November at the Church of the Covenant, 2666 Military Road,

Early Bird Refreshments at 7:30. The meeting starts at 8 PM, but join us
beforehand for refreshments and conversation. There will be a drawing for door
