[va-bird] Oakton, Fairfax Co, April 1-5, Flint Hill School

Highlights at our campus this week were:
*1 vesper sparrow (4/5) our first ever on the
campus
*6 savannah sparrows (banded two) (all week)
*3 palm warblers and 10 yellow-rumped flycatching
on emerging midges next to run-off drainage pond
(first palm arrived on 4/1)
*6 ruby-crowned kinglet, many with crown
nicely-flared, on 4/5
*first campus towhee of the year on 4/4
*first chipping sparrows(5) of the year on 4/3
*bluebirds checking out a natural cavity on 4/1
*titmice and kinglets drinking sap oozing from
holes made by a yellow-bellied sapsucker in a red
maple on 4/5
*2 red-breasted nuthatches on 4/5
*1 killdeer daily around the run-off drainage
pond
* red-tailed sunning himself every morning
* 1 red-shouldered hawk
*3 phoebes (1 banded)
