I spent some time at the Occocoquan NWR this morning and saw some good stuff,
but for the most part it seemed pretty quiet. Here's some highlights
Wood Duck 10
Green Winged Teal 5
Common Merg - 2
L. Scaup 2
Ruddy Duck 50
DC Corm 25
The 3 Gull species (No Laughing)
No Terns
Towhee / Blue Birds / Thrasher / BG Gnatcatcher
Cowbirds - plenty
Osprey / B. Eagle / Sharpie / Kestral
Tree and Barn Swallow
CHIMNEY SWIFT - my first of the year
Palm Warbler (yellow)
Parula - 2
Common Yellowthroat - 2 (heard only)
Savannah Sparrow - 1
Field Sparrows - singing all over the place
White Throat Sparrows - many
Also, I ran into Jim Waggoner who heard a Bobwhite singing near the entrance
the the refuge.
After that I took a walk through the Accotink Wildlife Refuge at Ft. Belvior
and found many of the same birds but added the following:
Chipping Sparrows - 10
Pine Warblers - 5
Junco - 10
