Hi VA-Birders,
This morning my husband Lee and I spent a couple of enjoyable hours birding
one of our favorite spots, Occoneechee State Park outside Clarksville, VA.
Despite overcast conditions and southerly winds the night before, we found
pockets of active birds, including large numbers of Pine Warblers. Another
highlight was getting a close-up of a Sharp-shinned Hawk. It was chased by
Blue Jays so flew in and out of view multiple times.
We've only birded this park in the spring and fall, and we've loved it
every time. Reliable place to see both tanager species, red-headed
woodpecker, and a variety of migrating warblers. There were probably more
warblers present than I reported due to poor visibility when looking at
some birds.
