In addition to the usual thousands of ducks on Occoquan Bay this afternoon,
I found a group of 13 Horned Grebes, at least three of which were males in
FULL BREEDING PLUMAGE. The birds were reasonably close in and quite appeared
quite resplendent in the afternoon sun. They were about half-way between
Easy and Charlie roads. While I was looking at the grebes, I looked up into
the sky and saw literally thousands of ducks flying north out of the bay.
There were more ducks flying than I have ever seen in the air at one time
before.
