It was a beautiful morning at Occoquan Bay NWR. I could not relocate the
clay-colored sparrow reported yesterday, and sparrows in general were in lower
numbers than I expected, but there were some good birds around. Hightlights
were 3 purple finches, a calling fox sparrow, 6 tree swallows, a snipe sleeping
along the shore of the pond next to the parking lot, hermit thrush, 2 young
indigo buntings, a dozen palm warblers, both kinglets, and an immature eastern
meadowlark.
