Seven very intrepid birders joined Phil Silas and me on the Northern Virginia Bird Club trip to Occoquan Bay NWR in Woodbridge. Through steady rain/drizzle and dense fog on the river we managed to tally 66 species. The best bird is undoubtedly the continuing sedge wren, which was singing up a storm between 7 and 8am. It was in the triangle of grass between Fox Road and Bay View Drive, near the parking lot. Also encountered were the continuing house wren near the parking lot (making it a 4 wren day), a late tree sparrow, 4 female goldeneyes close to the shore (the only way we could see waterfowl), 3 very vocal king rails, a singing hermit thrush, several Bonaparte's gulls moving in and out of the fog close to shore, and a winnowing Wilson's snipe. The complete list is below.

On the way home I stopped at the Belmont Marina and dense fog obscured everything except a horned grebe in breeding plumage.
