I birded Occoquan Bay NWR this morning with Bill Hohenstein. We walked out Easy
Rd. to the river then to Delta Rd., and then back along the shore to Fox Rd.
and the parking lot. Charlie Rd and the wildlife drive are closed due to
nesting eagle, and yes, the eagle is on the nest. Notables were FOS barn
swallow, 5 female common goldeneyes, a common loon in breeding plumage, an
amazing 10 phoebes, house wren, a singing brown creeper, 2 fox sparrows, 2 very
vocal king rails, a kestrel, and a male harrier. We finished with 62 species.
On my way home I stopped at Belmont Bay marina, where I saw a FOS rough-winged
swallow, 4 red-necked grebes, 3 horned grebes, and all 3 merganser species.
