Lynn and I visited Burke Lake first, then Occoquan Bay NWR this morning
(Sunday). Highlights were:
** Burke Lake **
3 Wood Duck
11 Common Loon, most or all in breeding plumage
1 Horned Grebe
20 Bonaparte's Gull (way down from Donald Sweig's 250)
1 Blue-Gray Gnat (our FOS)
1 Creeper
** Occoquan NWR **
1 Wood Duck
1 Creeper
2 Brown Thrasher (together, these were our FOS)
1 Hermit Thrush
I've seen quite a few HETH the past few weeks including one hanging
around our back yard. Pretty sure none have been Swainson's or Gray-Cheeked,
but I'll keep looking.
