Janet Paisley and I went birding among the shopping centers and
parking lots of north part of Charlottesville this morning. In some
short stubble destined to be the next retail masterpiece, we found
one Horned Lark (there was a flock of twelve in the some location
yesterday). From there we went to a recently constructed storm water
retention pond south of a new Kohl's store. As we stood atop an
embankment overlooking the pond, Janet pointed out a warbler in some
shrubs below us. It was grayish on the back, had a strong dark
eyeline, faint streaking below and bright yellow undertail
coverts-Orange-crowned Warbler. There have been but three past
sightings of this warbler in Albemarle County. Stauffer Miller
