We found several Orchard Orioles in Warren County today in the trees
surrounding the parking lot of the canoe put-in on the South Fork of the
Shenandoah River on Route 613 near Bentonville, Virginia. The birds had
been reported earlier in the day at the Shenandoah River State Park; the
report, by a couple from Michigan, was verified by Ann and me. We knew
that the traditional spot for the birds was at the upstream end of the
Park; sure enough, the birds were there when we checked at 4 o'clock pm
today.
We are missing House Finch and Eastern Bluebird. I know they have not yet
read my database, but they should be here. The Tree Swallows are here in
large numbers. We can hear Indigo Bunting, but have not yet seen them.
