Hello all,

Seventeen people joined leader Cindy Foster for a walk along Buttermilk Creek Trail in Reston (Fairfax County) this morning. The walk was sponsored by Reston Association, the Bird Feeder, and Audubon Society of Northern Virginia (ASNV).

Highlights included a female HOODED MERGANSER, OSPREY, and PALM WARBLER. These three were seen along, or from, the part of the trail that parallels the northern side of the lake at Lake Fairfax Park. The complete list follows:

Canada Goose
Mallard
Hooded Merganser (f) on Lake Fairfax

Tree Swallow--two near Upland Pool. It appears they were winning a duel with a pair of Eastern Bluebirds for control of a nest box in the pipeline right-of-way just below Upland Swimming Pool.
