My brother, my mother, and I went to Kerr Reservoir today to look for the
Pacific Loon at Palmer Point Rec. Area and the Snow Buntings seen along Hwy
4 south of the dam. We had distant views of the loon off the west side of
the point (in front of a house on the shore opposite the point). Some
birders who were counting birds for the Kerr Reservoir CBC pointed us in the
right direction to see the Snow Buntings. There were five of these beauties
along the road shoulder before the first lookout pulloff on Hwy 4, as one
heads north. This location is just south of the dam. The birds would sit
on the guardrail, road shoulder, and rocky slope on the west side of the
highway. The best way to see the birds is to park at the first lookout
parking lot (from the south) and walk south to look for the birds. Be
careful of traffic when doing this.
