Hi Everyone,
Today there was a partially leucistic American Crow at Lake Fairfax in Reston.
Quite a sight: It was normal throughout the body except that the inner portions
of the primaries and secondaries were white. The tips of all the feathers
appeared to be black. When it flew, it almost had a Pileated Woodpecker look
to it. When the wings were folded, no white was visible anywhere!
Nothing unusual today, except that the escaped Bar-headed Geese were now five,
not four.
Plus, how likely is it that a Starling can make an unquestionably perfect
Eastern Pewee call? I heard what I thought was a would-be very late Pewee
giving its "Pee ee uh weeee", but then realized that there was a group of
starlings in the direction of where it came from, and no Pewee in sight. So,
if it was not a Pewee, then birders should be very aware of this Pavarotti of
the starling world!!
Jay
