Golf Course Road was a bit too foggy for my tastes this morning so I opted for
Foamhenge instead. Interestingly enough, this tract was also a golf course at
one time.
On my way up the trail I ran into plenty of warblers, including lots of
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, three OVENBIRDS in the same tree, a NASHVILLE
WARBLER, and a singing PINE WARBLER. I also got great looks at a GRAY-CHEEKED
THRUSH.
On my way out, I spotted an EASTERN PHOEBE devouring a GREAT SPANGLED
FRITILLARY, and was able to pish in a curious PHILADELPHIA VIREO. The bird came
to a limb about two feet from my face. I can't say I've ever had a better view
of this species, or of almost any other species for that matter, but I can say
we now have records of all six vireo species at Natural Bridge.
Great morning!
