Yesterday while out on invasive plant removal business at Long Branch Nature
Center, I spotted a Pileated Woodpecker (one of our big misses at the CBC 2
weeks ago). Then I noticed a Northern Flicker within several feet of the
Pileated. As the Pileated worked on the tree trunk, the Flicker seemed to
simply maintain a perch close by, as if with the attitude of "Hey, I just like
to hang out with the Big Guy." My best shot was the first one I rushed when I
wasn't even sure I had them in frame:

Good birding and a Happy New Year to all! Cheers,
