VA BIRDers,
Marc Ribaudo, Jeff Marcel, Lori Markoff and myself birded the area near
Possum Point and a bit of the Quantico Cr Bay this morning. Highlights were
Royal Tern and Black and White Warbler. We also encoutered a 2
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers and a singing Purple Finch.
Earlier in the predawn hours, Lori and I visited portions of Marine Base
Quantico and managed to hear one phrase of a Whip-poor-will song. We suspect
the cold night tended to dampen the Whips enthusiasm for more prolonged
harmony! Nearby were a pair of Barred Owls and, as the skies brightened with
the approaching dawn, a Wild Turkey called and several Brown Thrashers and
Pine Warblers started singing.
After the morning's activities, I visited Mason Neck SP and noted a few
interesting birds on Belmont Bay as follows:
