Hello, birders.
I spent some time at the Visitor Center area of Riverbend Park in Fairfax Co.
on a cold and windy Sunday afternoon. An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL spent
some time on a log in the middle of the river before flying off. The sightings
log at the Visitor Center showed that an adult Lesser, which I assume was the
same bird, was seen on Jan. 8.
Waterfowl on the river, mostly near the Maryland shore, were:
Can. Goose, 12
Am. Black Duck, 2
Mallard, 3
Ring-necked Duck, 275 (mostly males)
Bufflehead, 10
Com. Merganser, 7
P.b. Grebe, 1
S. Baron
