Friday I tried to head over to Campbell county to see the kites before the
storm. While the timing wasn't good, it was the only time I could get there.
Something came up at work and I didn't arrive until 4:00. For the next couple
of hours I saw the usual suspects but nothing notable. I did see a Cooper's
hawk and while trying to turn a Red-Tailed Hawk into a Swallow-Tailed Kite, I
noticed one of the juvenile Mississippi Kites working north thru the winds
(5:43pm). It gave me some great looks. I wandered around the fields enjoying
the regulars (wow - a LOT of kingbirds), but no other kites. I usually have
good eyes, but couldn't spot anything sailing high.
Sunday, I ventured out to Bethel Beach to see what blew in. Mainly water! Many
roads were partially to completely submerged. I did make it out to Bethel Beach
(CMT02) where I saw a juve. yellow-crowned night heron, 7 avocets, and a
sandwich tern amongst all the other expected birds. If interested in the full
e-bird list, send me an e-mail. Most spots were pretty empty of birds. Probably
all inland!
