Visiting The Point, Julie Metz, Leesylvania SP, and Belmont Bay Marina.
Dave Boltz joined me off and on at The Point, then at Metz and Lee SP.
Highlight was a northbound Mississippi Kite flying high over Metz near noon;
year old bird. Other highlights were Blue-winged Teal (male) in Quantico
Creek marsh, Lesser Scaup in Belmont Bay, Least Bittern flying over
spadderdock off Neabsco Cr marina, Broad-winged Hawk over Leesylvania SP,
Bonaparte's Gull over Belmont Bay joined by 2 Black Terns (and 2 Caspian
Terns and 40 Forster's Terns), Eastern Wood Pewee nest nearly complete at
The Point, Willow Flycatcher at Metz, Gray-cheeked Thrush at The Point
(singing) and Leesylvania SP, and 21 species of warbler at The Point (No.
Parula, Yellow, Magnolia, Cape May, Yellow-rumped, Blackburnian,
Yellow-throated, Prairie, Blackpoll, Black&White, Am. Redstart,
Prothonotary, Worm-eating, Ovenbird, No. Waterthrush, LA Waterthrush, Com.
Yellowthroat, Hooded, Canada, YB Chat). I tallied 90 species at The Point
in about 4.5 hrs and Dave added at least two additional (Common Nighthawk
and Veery).
I ended the day grilling on a BBQ in Fairfax Co near Lake Accotink. Belted
Kingfisher on the nearby Accotink stream and 3 Common Nighthawks at dusk
were added to my daylist.
