Saturday after the RVBC field trip, four of us made a side trip to Solitude
swamp to check the prothonotary nest.  The female flew out of the nestbox as
we approached.  When we opened the box, we found one newly hatched chick and
four unhatched eggs.  Other birds of interest were a yellow-billed cuckoo,
and a green heron that's been around every time we've been to the swamp
lately.  We haven't seen nesting behavior from the heron, but we're still
looking.

I've posted pictures of the prothonotary nest and scissortail at
http://roanokebird.tripod.com/pictures.htm
