Hi all,
I am planning on going down to southeast VA either the last weekend of April or
the first weekend of May and I would like some more info on finding some of my
target birds. I was thinking about something along the lines of driving roads
in the Red-cockaded Woodpecker area just after dawn, head over to the Dismal
Swamp for Swainson's Warbler, and then head over to Black Bay NWR. Some of my
questions are below. How good are my chances of finding the woodpeckers
without a tour and is time of day important? How early do I need to get to
Dismal Swamp before the Swainson's Warblers will stop singing, or do they sing
all day? Are there any good spots for either of the sharp-tailed sparrows and
Seaside Sparrow in the area. Can Anhinga still be found at Stumpy Lake? Any
spots for Chuck-wills-widows would be appreciated as well. Other target birds
are any ibis, Little Blue Heron, Clapper and King Rails, Piping Plover.
