When I got home this afternoon, my husband said, "You won't believe the bird
I saw today!" While he was sitting out on the deck, he noticed a large
mostly black bird in the nearby dogwood. He had never seen a bird like it
before. It was facing away from him so he wasn't sure what it was until it
flew away. Then he could see the white on the body and wings. After
checking the book he was positive it was a Red-headed WP - a young one as it
had no red anywhere. The head was brownish. He said it looked like a
Red-belly or Flicker except for the color. Anyway, that is a first for our
yard or anywhere for that matter. Of course, I had to miss it!
