Gentle Readers,
Barbara and John Perry, Mary Floyd, and Mike Ready led the Monday Morning
Birdwalk at Huntley Meadows park on September 27, 2004, from 0700 to 0900.
The warm, calm winds graced the day under cloudy skies. Every treetop seemed
to have a Flicker or a Robin permanently affixed. Pride of place goes to an
adult Red-headed Woodpecker seen down Barnyard Run. Large flocks of
blackbirds, mostly Red-winged Blackbirds, were so large that the vibration of
the air could be both felt and heard when the birds took off en masse. It was
a good way to await the wind and rain of Jeanne.
