A Friday afternoon walk along the Potomac River at Riverbend Park produced a
pair of HORNED GREBES, one sporting "golden horns", the other an "adult in
spring molt" as illustrated in the National Geo Guide. They were close to
shore and their red eyes glistened in the afternoon sun.
I also saw a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, my first this year at Riverbend, and a
flyby of 14 BONAPARTE'S GULLS.
The river level is getting lower, though still high. Regardless, the bulk
of the wintering ducks seem to have left.
