Following is the tally from the September 14 bird walk at Riverbend Park,
which identified 23 species and included one participant. Highlights include
sightings of a Common Yellowthroat and a female American Redstart, several Wood
Thrush, and a couple of Veerys. Today's walk focused on the Conn's Farm Meadow,
with a brief round-trip hike to and from the park Visitors' Center.
The next walk will meet at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22nd (rain or
shine), in the parking lot at the Riverbend Park Nature Center (not the
Visitors' Center); please contact Riverbend Park on 703-759-9018 to register.
Participants should be prepared to walk about 2 miles in comfortable,
closed-toed shoes. There likely will be gentle uphill and downhill stretches on
slightly uneven terrain. All those with an interest in the natural world -
beginning or experienced birders - please join us.
