I spent about two hours checking the ducks on the Potomac River at Riverbend
Park, most of the time with Keith and Christie Huffman, this afternoon.
Initially it looked like there wasn't much there except gulls, but upon looking
closer we found a lot.
There were at least a hundred Common Mergansers, and probably a like number
of Ring-necked ducks as well. Of more interest, we found at least six male
Redhead (and some females); we found at least five or six male American
Widgeon, and I found at least five male Wood Ducks and three or four females as
well. Other waterfowl included: three or four Hooded Mergansers, numerous
Bufflehead, a Pied-billed Grebe, three or four Horned Grebes, a number of
Gadwall and Black Ducks, and a bunch of Coots.
