Among the eight species of warblers at Riverbend Pk (Fairfax Cty) this Monday
morning was a Connecticut Warbler (a first fall bird) foraging in the brush
under the line of trees along the path that veers to the left. It provided me
with excellent looks.
Other warblers (mostly seen along the far end of the meadow in the trees and
brush along Jeffery Rd.) were Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black-throated Green,
Black-throated Blue, Black and White, Am. Redstart, and Common Yellowthroat.
A Philadelphia Vireo, a Blue-headed Vireo, two Ruby-Crowned Kinglets, and
three Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks added to the excitement. The meadow has produced
a
bumper crop of Indigo Buntings, Goldfinches, and Cardinals this year and they
were all quite active this morning. The meadow to my experience has been
devoid of bluebirds this summer, so I was happy to find an immature bird atop
the
wires today.
I tallied 42 species this morning.
I received a report that Sunday morning, the 19th., was also an excellent day
in the meadow with 12 species of warblers, 4 of vireos, including
Philadelphia, White-eyed, and Blue-headed, and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks.
